Memphis police accuse letter carrier of delivering drugs

The Memphis Police Department spent 7 months on the investigation they called Operation Wait A Minute Mr. Postman. The probe resulted in 25 indictments announced with the Shelby County District Attorney's Office earlier this week.

Among alleged gang members arrested on felony drug-related charges: a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. Fourteen people were arrested, while another 11 are still being sought.

According to News Channel 3, police say they took into custody members of the Travelling Vice Lords, the Grape Street Crips and the Gangster Disciples. Law enforcement officials said they also seized quantities of the synthetic opioid fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, marijuana and Oxycodone.

In addition, police report that they confiscated 13 guns, 33 motor vehicles, 3 motorcycles and more than $20,000 in cash.

Law enforcement officials claim that the letter carrier helped bring drugs into the city through the post office.

They also claim that four of those indicted were involved in the long-term theft and resale of Oxycodone from a pharmaceutical warehouse where they were employed.
