Parents accuse Memphis-area Scout leader of sex crimes with son

The Boy Scouts' motto is "be prepared." Law enforcement officials say a former Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother should be prepared to spend time behind bars if she is convicted on charges of sexual indecency with a child and child pornography.

A Memphis TV station reports that the 38-year-old Marion, Arkansas, allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old who was in the woman's Scout troop.

A Memphis TV station reports that the 38-year-old Marion, Arkansas, woman allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old who was in her Scout troop.

According to the report, the woman is in Crittenden County Jail. Her bond is set at $35,000.

The station says the woman was a Cub Scout den mother until three months ago and that she was relieved of her duties by the organization.

The teen's parents told the station in a statement that they found out about the alleged relationship between their son and the woman and contacted her, asking her to end contact. They said they did not at that time want to involve the police.

When the woman and teen continued their contact, the parents say they called the Marion police department.

Officials were unable to find sufficient evidence then to arrest her, the parents say in a letter to the TV station, so police cautioned her to stay away from the teenager. The parents say the woman did not heed the warning.

It is impossible to know all the facts in cases from TV reports. That is why it is important to always remember that everyone accused of a crime gets to tell their side of the story in court with the help of a qualified criminal defense attorney.
