Traffic arrest morphs into big surprise

If you drive northeast of Memphis for about six hours, you will arrive in Loudon County. The rural area was recently home to a unique marriage proposal that began with an arrest -- sort of.

According to a TV station report, a man was driving his girlfriend in his car when he was pulled over. The police officer told the man that he was being arrested for a traffic violation. It was then that the officer and the boyfriend let the girlfriend in on what was really taking place.

The TV station says that while the man was handcuffed, the officer asked him if he was holding any illegal drugs, and then pulled a ring out of the boyfriend's pocket and showed it to the man's girlfriend. She apparently knew then that the "arrest" had been a ruse. It was merely a set-up for the marriage proposal that then came from the boyfriend.

“I’ll never forget it," said the girlfriend of the fake arrest and proposal. "Best moment ever – scary moment at first. But, best moment ever. I was like, you made it rememberable.”

Few people have fond memories of real arrests, of course. Instead, they often remember their arrest as the moment in which they were thrown into a confusing and intimidating legal system; a system that poses a very real threat to freedom.

An experienced criminal defense attorney can help you get through what is for many people a difficult ordeal. A lawyer will help you understand the charges against you, investigate the allegations and evidence and help you choose what is best from among your legal options.
