Cop on motorcycle accused of DUI, riding with a child

It is a little more than a five-hour drive from Memphis to Douglasville, Georgia, whether you are in a car or on a motorcycle. According to news reports, at least one man southeast of us won't be making that trip on his cycle any time soon.

The Douglasville police officer was recently arrested on charges that he drove under the influence of alcohol and that he had an 11-year-old child on the back of his motorcycle.

According to a Memphis TV news report, the man has been fired from his law enforcement job.

He is also accused of exposing himself at a gas station when he urinated on the side of a building.

After that alleged incident, he and a woman got on separate motorcycles and rode off. He had the child on the back of his bike.

The group was pulled over by Georgia State Patrol troopers, who then asked the man if the accounts of the gas station incident were true. He apparently "nodded his head."

As officers spoke to him, they smelled alcohol on his breath, they wrote later in their report of the arrest. The former cop declined to take a field sobriety test and breath test.

In Tennessee, as in Georgia, the legal threshold for drunken driving is a BAC (blood alcohol content) of 0.08 percent.

Anyone who is tested at that mark or above can be arrested for DUI.

You can discuss a drunk driving charge with a Memphis attorney experienced in DUI defense.
