Suspect in up to 20 armed robberies arrested

If you drive about three and a half hours northeast of Memphis, you’ll come to Davidson County, Tennessee – better known for its county seat (a little town called Nashville). Davidson’s neighbor to the south is Williamson County.

Law enforcement officials recently announced that an 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicions that he committed a series of armed robberies of convenience and phone stores in the two counties. He’s been charged with four counts of aggravated robbery of three phone outlets and one Discount Tobacco store.

Investigators said they located a red Dodge car they believed was connected to the suspect in a Nashville public housing community. When an officer tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver drove off through a ditch. The vehicle was located again later that night at an apartment building.

When officers knocked on the door, they smelled “a strong odor of marijuana” coming from inside the apartment, they said. The four people inside – ranging in age from 15 to 19 – were interviewed by detectives.

Two reportedly admitted to being involved in robberies: the suspect and a 17-year-old boy. The pair are being investigated in nearly 20 robberies carried out in Davidson and Williamson counties since early November, law enforcement officials told a TV news reporter.

A search of the apartment yielded three handguns, a rifle, ammunition, $9,000 cash and several phones.

The 18-year-old suspect faces several charges in addition to the allegations of armed robbery, including unlawful gun possession, felony theft, evading arrest and misdemeanor marijuana possession, among others.

Those facing similar accusations should decline to speak to investigators or prosecutors until after they have discussed the evidence and charges with an experienced criminal defense attorney.
