In the past couple of days, Memphis news sources have reported on a pair of incidents that involve serious allegations of domestic violence. In both cases, the suspects could face significant punishment – including time behind bars – if they are found guilty of the charges.

In one case, a man is accused of stabbing his girlfriend and then holding her young children hostage. In another case, a woman is accused by local law enforcement officials of picking her picking her boyfriend up, driving around the block and then stabbing him in the back.

In the first case of alleged domestic violence, the man reportedly showed up at his girlfriend’s house and demanded money for drugs. When she refused, he allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened her and her kids.

At some point in the confrontation, police say he stabbed the woman in the thigh and cut her arm.

She then was able to flee the house, while he remained inside, allegedly holding the children hostage. He was later arrested by Memphis police.

According to a channel 3 news report, he has been charged with aggravated child abuse, especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Fox 13 reported on the other allegations of domestic violence in which a woman is alleged to be the assailant.

Law enforcement officials said the suspect picked her boyfriend up on Trigg Avenue and began punching him after he entered the vehicle. She drove around the block. When they got back to the house, he stabbed him in the back.

He fled the vehicle and got back into the home. She proceeded to bang on the door with the knife in her hand, police said. She faces an aggravated assault charge.

In both cases, suspects should decline to speak to prosecutors until they have talked over the evidence and charges with an experienced Memphis defense attorney.
