Tennessee Bureau of Investigation makes drug, weapons arrests

If you drive east of Memphis for about three hours, you will find yourself in sparsely populated Hardin County. Though less than 30,000 people live in the rural area, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies conducted an operation in which 28 people were arrested on drug and weapons charges.

Officers said reported confiscating illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, three firearms and a vehicle while executing search warrants and conducting traffic stops and parole compliance checks.

The county sheriff’s office said there has been an uptick in criminal activity in Hardin County. Last year the sheriff’s department and Savannah Police Department combined to make 121 drug arrests, according to the TBI.

In the recent law enforcement operation, 11 people were taken into custody on warrants for alleged violations of probation or parole.

A 66-year-old man, the oldest among those arrested in the operation, was charged with possession of a Schedule VI substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia. The two youngest of those arrested – both are 24 years old – face two sets of charges: one apparently made several traffic violations while the other also faces marijuana possession and public intoxication charges.

A 35-year-old man faces two counts of being a felon in possession of a weapon, while a 44-year-old man is charged with possession of a Schedule II drug (which can include opiates, cocaine and methamphetamines), possession of a Schedule IV drug (which can include benzodiazepines and sedatives such as Xanax), possession of a Schedule V substance (can include marijuana and synthetic equivalents) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
