Country star Sam Hunt arrested for DUI in Tennessee

Singer-songwriter Sam Hunt is one of the bright stars in the country music sky. His 2016 album “Montevallo” generated multiple hits in his signature blend of R&B and country, including “Leave the Night On,” “Take Your Time,” “Body Like a Back Road” and “Make You Miss Me.”

His star might have dimmed a bit when the 34-year-old was recently arrested in Tennessee and charged with DUI.

According to media reports, at least three drivers called police to report that Hunt was driving the wrong way on a one-way Nashville street before he was pulled over. His dark SUV was reportedly swerving and crossing “the center line several times,” according to a police report.

One of the people who called 911 reported that although Hunt was driving down the wrong side of the street, he “going the regular speed” and he “wasn’t driving erratically.”

The former Middle Tennessee quarterback took to Twitter afterwards to apologize for “a poor and selfish decision” to drive after going to a downtown Nashville club to attend a friend’s show.

According to the police report, Hunt smelled of alcohol and had “watery” and “bloodshot” eyes. The officer also said Hunt tried to give him a credit card instead of an ID.

The singer was administered a sobriety test and a breath test, a news report stated. His blood-alcohol content (BAC) was measured at 0.173 percent. As most of our readers know, the legal threshold in Tennessee is .08 percent.

Those convicted of a first offense DUI can be sentenced to spend from 48 hours to up to 11 months and 29 days in jail. The news articles on Hunt did not state if the singer has a criminal defense attorney.
