Report: major violent crimes continues to drop in Memphis

According to a recent report from the Memphis-Shelby Crime Commission, major violent crime in the city and county decreased over the first six months of the year when compared to totals from 2017. All four types of crime in the major violent crime category declined through the end of June 2018. The category was down 8.1 percent in Memphis from a year ago and down 6.4 percent in Shelby County.

Tennessee men arrested on sex crimes charges

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation recently announced that 10 men in the area have been arrested on felony sex crime charges.

Last October, a Tennessee man made a disturbing claim in social media, writing that he had killed a 5-year-old girl. When law enforcement officials investigated the messages he posted on his Facebook page, they "not find anything credible" in his murder claim, a detective who worked on the case said.

Tennessee inmate says jailer raped, impregnated her

It takes about five hours to drive east from Memphis to Lynchburg. The small town is home to the Moore County jail, where an inmate alleges that she was repeatedly raped by a corrections officer. The accusations are part of a federal lawsuit in which she also claims to have been impregnated by the officer.

Former Memphis firefighter arrested on child porn charge

What had already been an undeniably wild month for former Memphis firefighter and Southhaven alderman Ronnie Hale got even wilder and worse after his recent arrest by federal agents. Hale surrendered to marshals at the Oxford, Mississippi, court house on a child pornography charge, news media outlets reported.
