Former Tennessee teacher pleads guilty to felonies, weeps

It is about a four-hour drive east of Memphis to arrive in Culleoka. The small town is most widely known as where a high school teacher and a 15-year-old student began a cross-country journey that garnered nationwide attention last year. Fifty-one-year-old Tad Cummins has apparently changed his mind and agreed to plead guilty to two felony charges in the case, according to news reports.

Tennessee man arrested after Facebook claims about rape, murder

Last October, a Tennessee man made a disturbing claim in social media, writing that he had killed a 5-year-old girl. When law enforcement officials investigated the messages he posted on his Facebook page, they "not find anything credible" in his murder claim, a detective who worked on the case said.

Tennessee inmate says jailer raped, impregnated her

It takes about five hours to drive east from Memphis to Lynchburg. The small town is home to the Moore County jail, where an inmate alleges that she was repeatedly raped by a corrections officer. The accusations are part of a federal lawsuit in which she also claims to have been impregnated by the officer.

Former Memphis firefighter arrested on child porn charge

What had already been an undeniably wild month for former Memphis firefighter and Southhaven alderman Ronnie Hale got even wilder and worse after his recent arrest by federal agents. Hale surrendered to marshals at the Oxford, Mississippi, court house on a child pornography charge, news media outlets reported.

Getting off of Tennessee’s sex offender registry

In most cases, the worst part of a criminal conviction in Tennessee is the jail or prison sentence. Many who have been convicted of a sex crime in our state believe the worst part is having to register as a sex offender. Registration can have a significant negative impact on family relationships, limit the kinds of jobs you can hold and also put restrictions on where you can live.

Memphis-area man accused of selling drugs, sexual exploitation of kids

Just a few miles north of Memphis, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Millington man and accused him of selling drugs to children. That wasn't the worst that he did, however, say law enforcement officials, who claim the man sold the drugs to kids as a way of meeting children he could potentially sexually abuse.

Parents accuse Memphis-area Scout leader of sex crimes with son

The Boy Scouts' motto is "be prepared." Law enforcement officials say a former Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother should be prepared to spend time behind bars if she is convicted on charges of sexual indecency with a child and child pornography.
