Memphis police officer accused of domestic violence

The stress of everyday life, work and relationships are often a challenge for the average person to deal with successfully. When that person is a cop, the tension and strain of police work often takes an emotional toll.

In some situations, officers struggle with alcohol or drug abuse or issues with verbal or physical abuse of loved ones. We read recently of a Memphis cop who was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.

The 37-year-old veteran police officer was off-duty at the time of his arrest outside of Memphis city limits. A news report on Channel 13 states that the cop was involved in an incident was his fiances son. The officer is accused of getting in an argument in which he allegedly put the boy in a chokehold.

After his arrest and release from Shelby County Jail, he has been taken away from his police duties, the TV station reports.

The Mt. Moriah Station officer has been on the force since 2004.

As you might know, domestic violence in Tennessee is defined as an assault on a family member or household member. It can include the following:

  • A current or former spouse
  • Person with whom the alleged offender resides or previously resided
  • Person who the alleged offender is dating or previously dated
  • Someone with whom the alleged offender has or previously had a sexual relationship
  • Someone with whom the alleged offender is related by blood or adoption
  • Someone whom the alleged offender is or was related to by marriage

If you have been charged with domestic violence, contact an attorney experienced in effective representation in negotiations and at trial.
