Domestic violence charges dropped against Reuben Foster

Back in 2016, the University of Tennessee hosted the visiting Crimson Tide of Alabama. Unfortunately, things did not go well for the Volunteers that October afternoon, as Alabama crushed the Vols 49-10. One of the Tide’s stars that year was inside linebacker Reuben Foster, who went on to win the Butkus Award as the nation’s best at his position.

According to news reports, domestic violence charges against the now-Washington Redskins player have been dropped. Foster is currently on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list, meaning he cannot play until legal and league matters have been resolved.

The Florida State Attorney’s Office dismissed the misdemeanor domestic violence allegation that resulted from a late November incident. Foster was at that time a member of the San Francisco 49ers, but the team dropped him after his arrest. He was immediately claimed on waivers by Washington, however.

Foster’s attorney said he believes that the dismissal of charges is due to a previous case against his client in which an ex-girlfriend changed her story about a past incident.

In May of last year, domestic violence charges against the linebacker were dropped due to insufficient evidence. Foster’s ex-girlfriend told the court that she had lied about the incident, saying untruthfully that her ex had hit her and dragged her by her hair.

In November, the same woman said Foster had slapped a phone out of her hand, pushed her and slapped her in the face.

Those facing domestic violence allegations should speak with an experienced criminal defense attorney before discussing evidence or charges with investigators or prosecutors.
